Today, Sophie told me she was happy. I am still happy because of it.
We were grocery shopping all afternoon - we had to make multiple stops and were out of a bunch of things, so it took some time. So after we finished, I took her for a walk downtown. She walked beside me, holding my hand. On the way back to the car, she was greeting all the people and bouncing and generally acting very excited and pleased about getting to walk.
And then she looked up at me and she said "happy", with a big big smile. I don't *know* that she chose that word and used it on purpose to mean what it's supposed to mean, but it seemed pretty clear to me. It is small and it might seem silly to anyone else, but it just about broke my heart (in the good way, you know).
(She also used other words I'd never heard her use today. This morning when we stepped outside and it was cold and rainy, she said "cole. wet." This afternoon when the wind picked up, she said "breeze". I had no idea she knew "wet" or "breeze"! She also says bridge, but it sounds a lot like "bitch", and when she saw the upstairs walkways at City Market she thought they were bridges. She started yelling "bitch" and pointing...just as some poor, innocent young woman walked by. She did a double take, and I said "BRIDGE, oh yes, a BRIDGE! Let's practice that word!" Oh dear. :))
