Teach me about Supernatural.

Supernatural S1 - does it get better? I just finished disc 2, and while I'm having some fun, I am not enamored and I have some complaints.
First, every episode is essentially the same. Something urban legendy or folklore-y happens, resulting in horror and death. The boys find out about it, and they go to the town, pretending to be some sort of person who is supposed to be there (police, detectives, students, whatever). They meet cute girl with supernatural problem, and pursue evil thing with knowledge they got from Daddy Winchester, who they are trying to find (they remind us of that periodically, lest we forget). Sometimes they engage in cute boy behavior somewhere in there, which is fun, but I'm just not that into them. (And Sam is still Dean to me, for real - to remind myself, I actually think "Dan is Sam, and the other Dean is Dean.") Cute girl is in danger, they save her and kill the evil thing in the nick of time, and they get into the car, blare classic rock, and drive away. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
This last episode, "Bugs", had the lamest ending ever. Morning came awful quick, if you ask me - did I miss something? Didn't they get to the house at midnight, and basically spend 5 minutes in the downstairs and 5 minutes in the attic with Dean's stupid firey bugspray before the sun came up with the speed of a...very speedy thing?
So help me, friendslist. I know there are fangirls on my friendslist. Is it worth it? Does it change? Please counsel me.
I go finish painting now. Whooeeee!

However, it is much more valuable to know, and be able to see the threads of the story moving through each episode.
I think that the characters of supernatural are so emotionally involving- you see them really take shape throughout the season, particularly sam and his dad in season 1. then it's more of Dean evolving in season 2.
It really is a great show. Stick with it.

It helps if you're superficial like me and love that the boys are very pretty, but while it does keep the same monster-of-the-week feel general storyline, the overall season arc is just AWESOME. It becomes much more Buffy-like, IMO - the boys fight a big baddie in the episode, but there's a bigger, badder baddie out there on the periphery, waiting to blow up in the best season finale I've seen in a long time, if not ever. :D
