every day i (try to) write the (LJ post)
Feb. 27th, 2012 03:31 pmI started to write about Glee, "On My Way", don't worry no spoilers here - like 3 times. And I got distracted every time, so I deleted it all. I had a lot of thoughts! And I read a wide range of reactions! And now it feels a little bit too Wednesday, so. I cried ALL THE TEARS, though, and ( ok actually spoiler-y )
In other news, we are trying to avoid getting a nasty stomach virus (how does one do that, exactly?) and I am being reminded of what a huge hypochondriac I am regarding this specific kind of illness. Kelly was here for a day and then came down with it after she left. I am a wee bit phobic about throwing up. A WEE BIT. Watch as I disinfect ALL THE THINGS. (Dear Kelly I love you and I hope you are better and I am sorry your sickness makes me freak out. :))
Because GoodReads has a way of keeping track, I set a goal for myself of reading 75 books this year. I am doing okay with that goal so far. I am reading the most wacky YA novel ever right now: it is called "Wither: The Chemical Gardens Trilogy Volume 1". YUP. So much melodrama! And it's like, a dystopian future world wherein people die of a mysterious virus at 20 or 25, depending on gender, so there's all this polygamy to keep the human race going except the babies born to these people will be orphans when they are like, 5, so...I am not sure where the logic is there. And also all of the continents except North America were destroyed, somehow, and also ALSO, there are holographs and magical bubble baths and fancy parties, as the world ends, because you know, that's fun! It's so bizarre. I love dystopian novels, but the new rash of dystopian YA (because it worked for Hunger Games!) can be so RANDOM, and has anyone ever heard of world-building? Because the author deserves a memo. It's just strange and compelling enough for me to want to finish it, though, because even if the world-building is kinda hand-wavey, it's bad fun. What should I read next, people? I have to keep this up.
PS: My entire household (as in, all the adults in it) is reading "Unconditional Parenting" by Alfie Kohn, with great appreciation. I got it from the library, and Kelly went out and bought a copy because it impacted her so much. Have any of you read his work on education? I'm curious about that, too, and it will probably go on the to-read list.
I am so busy lately, so so busy, and I am not even sure how it got that way. I am around, VPing and reading my friends list, but if I have missed anything important in your life, please poke me about it, okay?
