Sep. 8th, 2007 11:24 amMadeleine L'Engle died yesterday. She wrote "A Wrinkle in Time" and many other children's books that I would characterize as fairly profound. Not many children's books take on quite so much at once - physics, religion, art, marriage - the way her books did. I read several of them around age 12, and they definitely had an impact on me even if I didn't really understand everything I was reading. I was recently given the first 3 books in the Time quintet, and I think I will plan a re-read soon (soon meaning, after I get out from under the stack of books I have to preview - cue the laugh track.)
Then this morning, I read that Alex Pepperberg died last night. I've done a lot of reading about Alex, and I am so sad that he died - and sad for the people who worked with him. 30 isn't that old for an African Grey. I hope that there are many corknuts in parrot heaven.
