Today there was semi-violent weather. I had to move tree branches to get to the mailbox. This is the closest RI got to this hurricane, and it was enough for me! It was all creepy in that autumnal way, with the leaves blowing everywhere and the wind howling and everything. Where did fall come from? There were yellow leaves mixed in with my hurricane remnants!
There was a deer in front of our apartment building tonight. We walked out the door and it ran away. This is the second deer I've seen around here lately - the other was strolling through campus, behind a house. They look so big and out of place! I get excited when I see them though, like I got to see something secret. :)
Ryan and I were talking, and we determined that neither of us think of our childhood as "the good old days". The state of the world aside, my life is better now than when I was 6 or 11 or 17. (We were talking about this because of songs and older people that romanticize youth, and think of their childhood as the time when they were happy and life was simple or better or whatever. It wasn't really like that for me, and it wasn't like that for him either.)
We went to the grocery store after dinner and bought apple cider and whipped cream, and we made caramel apple cider with the dulce de leche stuff from kelly, and it was awesome. You should make some! Put a glob of caramel in the bottom of a mug. Pour cider over it. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on the top, and microwave it for a couple of minutes until it's hot. Stir it up, and put the whipped cream on. It was gooood.
In other news, Taye Diggs is hawt, and Law and Order is better when it is not about a hot-button issue or a story that was Ripped From the Headlines. Much better. (Last week I wanted to hunt Dick Wolf down and give him a smack for belaboring the various Issues of the Evening until I wanted to die.) Yeah, I read all afternoon and then spent a couple hours this evening watching TV and knitting. It was good for me, and I got quite a bit of my knitting done, too.
And now...to bed I said! night night :-*
